abstract ={Introduction: Today, several methods are used for detecting COVID-19 such as disease-related clinical symptoms, and more accurate diagnostic methods like lung CT-scan imaging. This study aimed to achieve an accurate diagnostic method for intelligent and automatic diagnosis of COVID-19 using lung CT-scan image processing techniques and utilize the results of this method as an accurate diagnostic tool complementing the CT-scan devices. Method: Based on digital image processing algorithms such as segmentation and feature extraction and using various methods of statistical analysis on the features extracted from images, CT-scan images of 79 male and female patients in different ages were analyzed and the effects of this disease on the infected lungs of patients were evaluated. This research was conducted in the spring of 2020 in the Faculty of Medical Sciences and Technologies, Science and Research Branch in Tehran. Results: This intelligent method based on feature extraction from lung CT-scan images can diagnose COVID-19 with high accuracy on different categories (gender, type of injury caused by the disease). The analysis of lung tissue involvement in patients with COVID-19 revealed that most patients had tissue damage in the lower parts of both lungs to a greater extent than the middle and upper lung lobes. Conclusion: The algorithm presented in this study can accurately detect and differentiate the data of images taken from the lungs of healthy people and patients with coronavirus disease.},

title = {Designing and Developing a Self-Care Application for Post-Laryngectomy Surgery},
abstract ={Introduction: Laryngectomy is the only known treatment for laryngeal cancer. The objective of this study was to design and develop a self-care application for patients undergoing laryngeal resection surgery. Method: This study was an applied-developmental one conducted in two stages. The first stage included assessing the need for data elements using questionnaire by 14 ear, nose, and throat (ENT) specialists. Then, the application prototype was developed in Java. In the second stage, the usability of the application was evaluated using standard questionnaire of usability evaluation. Results: The results of the first stage included two main parts of clinical information and application capabilities. The clinical information consisted of 14 main groups and 35 subgroups with a mean score of 9.9. The application capability also included alarm, reminder, messaging, social networks, clinic reservation, and Internet connection. According to the participants, all information items of the questionnaire were declared as necessary. The usability of the application was also evaluated at a good level with an overall average of 7.6. Conclusion: Using a self-care application for post-laryngectomy patients will help increase their knowledge and facilitate self-care. Thus, it could be expected that using self-care technology and applications would reduce patients’ visits to health care centers as well as the number of their educational and care questions asked from health care staff. However, it is suggested that further studies be conducted with larger population and in different provinces. },

abstract ={Introduction: Due to the prevalence of coronavirus, the role of media, especially social media, to inform about and increase health literacy is very important. The objective of this study was to investigate the influence of factors effective in the use of social media on the level of e-health literacy of citizens in crisis. Method: In this descriptive-analytical study, 384 patients in Kermanshah province were selected using Morgan table. For this purpose, a two-part researcher-made questionnaire was used which included a demographic section and a specific section (using 5 variables) with 40 questions. The items in this questionnaire were scored using a 5-point Likert scale ranging from 1 (strongly disagree) to 5 (strongly agree). Results: The findings revealed that 43.1% of the participants believed Corona had a great impact on their job and more than 40% of the participants also stated they obtained health information through the Internet. The results also showed that the relationship between the variables was significant (P <0.05). Conclusion: The highest correlation was observed between accessibility and popularity variables. This suggests that increasing access to social media will enhance the popularity of these media. The information obtained in this study demonstrated that up-to-dateness of media, accessibility, trust in social media, perceived value, and popularity are among the factors effective in the impact of social media on e-health literacy. },

abstract ={Introduction: P53 is a tumor suppressor protein with numerous missense mutations identified in its gene. These mutations are observed in a vast number of cancers. R213G is one of them which has a role in metastatic lung cancers. In this research, R213G was studied in comparison with the wild type via molecular dynamics simulation. Method: For the three-dimensional structure of the wild-type P53 protein, chain A was used from crystallographic structure with PDB ID: 1TSR. For R213G mutation, residue 213 of this structure was changed to glycine. Molecular dynamics simulation was repeated twice for 15 ns using Gromacs 5.1.2 software package, AMBER99SB force field, and TIP3P as water model. RMSD, RMSF, radius of gyration, and potential energy analyses were performed on resulted trajectories. Results: RMSF analysis showed that the R213G mutation changes the flexibility of 11 residues including R-248. These residues are not near the mutated position, but all of them are located on 220-250 fragment of this domain or are residues in the neighbor of this fragment. The radius of gyration and potential energy results confirmed a reduction in stability of this protein as a result of this mutation. Conclusion: RMSF analysis of R213G mutation beside the changes in stability and radius indicated that this mutation could greatly affect the P53 interactions with other macromolecules.},

abstract ={Introduction: Anesthesia is one of the processes in which medication error is common. One of the most frequent medication errors in anesthesia is the error in calculating the dose of drugs. Decision support systems are one of the available solutions to reduce these errors. The purpose of this study was to design and evaluate an anesthesia decision support mobile application to assist anesthesiologists to choose the right and timely prescription of drugs. Method: This practical cross-sectional study was conducted in three stages including needs assessment, design, and evaluation. The needs assessment of this mobile app was performed using semi-structured interviews with physicians. After drawing the initial design, the mobile app was developed for the Android operating system, and in the end, it was evaluated based on accuracy and speed of calculation indicators. Results: The output of the interviews was classified into three categories including physicians’ views on the need to develop the app, the expected facilities and capabilities of the app, and the information content of the app. The evaluation results of this app showed that in all groups, except the expert group, the calculation time required by physicians was longer than the one by the mobile app. Moreover, the highest number of correct answers was given by the app user group and then the fourth-year resident group. Conclusion: An anesthesia decision support mobile app for physicians can significantly increase the accuracy and speed of physicians’ medication calculations. So far, no anesthesia mobile app has been developed in Iran according to valid international guidelines. Therefore, the results of this study can be taken into consideration by health service providers. },

abstract ={Introduction: Many people call emergency medical centers (EMCs) during a day due to accidents or various diseases and they need to receive first aid. In order to provide first aid, it is necessary to send emergency workers and vehicles from the emergency medical services centers to the location of the accidents. Therefore, the accessibility of the EMCs and their being located in an appropriate place are of great importance. The objective of this study was to analyze the spatial distribution pattern of the existing EMCs and to introduce suitable areas for the establishment of new centers. Method: The present study was a descriptive-analytical one. Ardabil, a city in Iran, was selected as the study area for analysis. A total of 22 criteria were used for site selection. The Analytic Network Process (ANP) was used to determine the weights of the criteria and the VIKOR model was utilized in Geographic Information System (GIS) to prepare an urban zoning map for the site selection of new centers. Results: The existing EMCs cover only a limited part of Ardabil and many parts of the city, including the outskirts, cannot receive proper emergency medical services (EMS). The created map suggested new locations to increase accessibility. Conclusion: Spatial redistribution and allocation of EMCs can improve accessibility of these centers. The GIS can provide a good platform for the redistribution of EMS. Health policymakers and planners may use the results of this study to optimally allocate resources.},

abstract ={Introduction: Self-care in chronic diseases implies the study and control of disease symptoms, maintaining a healthy lifestyle, and daily functioning. The objective of this study was to investigate the effect of educational text messages on self-care in hypertensive patients in one of the hypertension clinics in Kerman in 2020. Method: The statistical population of this quasi-experimental study included 316 patients with a history of hypertension, of whom 64 were selected as the sample of the study. Then, the selected participants were randomly assigned to two intervention and control groups each with 32 members. The self-care behavior questionnaire for hypertensive patients was used to collect data. Before the intervention, the questionnaires were completed by the participants. Then, educational text messages were sent to the intervention group for one month while the control group received no intervention. At the end of the training, all patients completed the questionnaires again. Data were analyzed using SPSS software (version 26). Results: The results showed that the mean score of self-care in the intervention group after the intervention (previous score being controlled) was 6.92 more than that of the control group, which was statistically significant (P-value <0.01). Thus, using mobile health (mHealth) had a greater impact on increasing self-care in patients with hypertension compared with the conventional self-care methods. Conclusion: The results of this study indicated the efficiency of educational text messages in self-care of patients with hypertension. Therefore, it is a good choice to use mHealth technologies for providing health care.},

title = {Multivariate Feature Extraction for Prediction of Future Gene Expression Profile},
abstract ={Introduction: The features of a cell can be extracted from its gene expression profile. If the gene expression profiles of future descendant cells are predicted, the features of the future cells are also predicted. The objective of this study was to design an artificial neural network to predict gene expression profiles of descendant cells that will be generated by division/differentiation of hematopoietic stem cells. Method: The developed neural network takes the parent hematopoietic stem cell’s gene expression profile as input and generates the gene expression profiles of its future descendant cells. A temporal attention was proposed to encode the main time series and a spatial attention was also provided to encode the secondary time series. Results: To make an acceptable prediction, the gene expression profiles of at least four initial division/differentiation steps must be known. The designed neural network surpasses the existing neural networks in terms of prediction accuracy and number of correctly predicted division/differentiation steps. The proposed scheme can predict hundreds of division/differentiation steps. The proposed scheme’ error in prediction of 1, 4, 16, 64, and 128 division/differentiation steps was 3.04, 3.76, 5.5, 7.83, and 11.06 percent, respectively. Conclusion: Based on the gene expression profile of a parent hematopoietic stem cell, the gene expression profiles of its descendants can be predicted for hundreds of division/differentiation steps and if necessary, solutions must be sought to encounter future genetic disorders.},

title = {An Optimal Model for Medicine Preparation Using Data Mining},
abstract ={Introduction: Lack of financial resources and liquidity are the main problems of hospitals. Pharmacies are one of the sectors that affect the turnover of hospitals and due to lack of forecast for the use and supply of medicines, at the end of the year, encounter over-inventory, large volumes of expired medicines, and sometimes shortage of medicines. Therefore, medicine prediction using available retrospective data leads to improved resource management in hospitals. Due to the high capability of data mining in modeling medical problems, selected algorithms were used to determine the optimal model of medicine preparation. Method: In this cross-sectional study, to investigate different types of data mining algorithms, an information form was developed based on the design objectives and then defined in the form of reports in the hospital information system. The data were extracted using Crystal Report software. To develop the model, the accuracy of the data mining prediction algorithms including KNN, SVM, NN, Random Forest, LR, and Adaboost was examined based on MSE, RMSE, MAE, and R2 criteria in Weka software. Results: Concerning R2, MAE, and RMSE criteria, Adaboost method (0.78, 247, 827) and random forest method (0.6, 1170, 1868) had the highest accuracy compared to other models and reduced the error rate more. Other methods with the above criteria had poorer performance in predicting the research problem. Conclusion: The results of this study indicated that the Adaboost and random forest methods are more accurate than other methods. A small percentage of hospitals plan to manage the preparation of medicines; thus, it is suggested that managers of hospitals and pharmacies use data mining in the management of their respective units.},

abstract ={Introduction: Cardiovascular diseases are one of the leading causes of mortality in today’s industrial world. Occlusion of left atrial appendage (LAA) using the manufactured devices is a growing trend. The objective of this study was to develop a computer-aided diagnosis system for the identification of LAA in echocardiographic images. Method: The data used in this descriptive analytical study included 3D echocardiographic images of the heart of 32 patients in King’s College Hospital in London. All patients were treated successfully using the LAA closure device. A total of 208 two-dimensional images were first obtained from each 3D echocardiographic image data set. Then, 1914 images in which the LAA region was clearly recognizable were selected for this study. The proposed neural network was compiled based on the YOLOv3 algorithm. Finally, 1369 and 545 images were used for training and testing the algorithm, respectively. Results: The performance of the algorithm in detecting the LAA on a set of 545 images was compared with the regions detected in similar images by an expert in echocardiography through intersection over union (IOU). The algorithm was able to correctly identify the LAA region in all 545 examined images with an average IOU of 99.37%. Conclusion: The proposed image-based algorithm could detect LAA region in echocardiographic images with a high accuracy. This method can be used to develop algorithms for automatic analysis of the LAA region to determine the size of the closure device and to plan an efficient procedure in LAA occlusion methods.},

title = {Development of a Model for Predicting Heart Attack Based on Fog Computing},
abstract ={Introduction: Various studies have demonstrated the benefits of using distributed fog computing for the Internet of Things (IoT). Fog computing has brought cloud computing capabilities such as computing, storage, and processing closer to IoT nodes. The new model of fog and edge computing, compared to cloud computing, provides less latency for data processing by bringing resources closer to users. This is essential for delay-sensitive applications such as remote healthcare and provides more reliable services. In this study, a fog-based system was proposed to monitor the condition of heart patients. Method: This study was a developmental-applied one. A set of data relevant to coronary heart patients available in the machine learning data repository of the University of California Irvine was used for evaluation. In this system, each of the heart patient's symptoms is evaluated based on the normal range in the fog layer and the status of the patient is determined. In this layer, requests are prioritized based on the number of symptoms that are out of the normal range. The efficiency of the proposed system was evaluated in terms of network usage time, latency, and response time. Results: The system presented in this study led to the improvement of network usage time by 23.77%, reduction of latency by 23.71%, and enhancement of response time by 32.95%. Conclusion: Using the priority queue to prioritize requests at the fog layer reduces the response time to emergency requests.},

title = {Investigating the Quality of Persian Mobile Applications Related to Patients with MS},
abstract ={Introduction: As the use of health-related applications increased, researchers sought to analyze them from different angles such as function, technology, benefits, risks, etc., so that other researchers and the target community could be aware of the current status of these applications. This study aimed to evaluate the quality of Persian mobile applications designed for MS disease based on the Mobile Application Ranking Scale (MARS). Method: This study was conducted on Persian mobile applications related to MS in January 2020. To identify these applications, a combined search of keywords related to "MS" and "mobile application" was done. Considering the popularity of the Android platform for mobile phones in Iran, researchers searched for the mentioned keywords in the "Cafebazaar" application. The Mobile Application Ranking Scale was adopted to evaluate the quality of applications. Results: Ten applications were included in this study. The results showed that each application had a combination of goals, such as prevention (n=6), diagnosis (n=7), initial treatment (n=10), and disease control (n=1) to increase awareness of the disease. One of the goals of all applications was to inform the users about the initial treatment. The initial installation version of all ten apps was free, but eight of them needed in-app purchases to upgrade information. According to the MARS scores, none of the apps were suitable for helping patients. Conclusion: The results showed that most Persian application designers have paid attention to the interactive aspects of applications and have neglected to provide scientific content. Developers of these applications are advised to evaluate them in the first place and then make them available to the public so that low-quality applications would not be available to patients. },
